Rules:

Finals!

This is designed to be a practice run at the Royal Archer "Finals". YES, that means it is ALL TIMED because the finals are a head to head shoot-off and you have to hit your targets faster than the other person. Ideally this is shot with the timekeeper/marshal calling the hit/miss beside the shooter just as the real Finals will be, with announcements about the Round about to be shot (yes trying to put the pressure on, just like the real finals, that is the goal of practice after all!).

Scoring

The score for all ends will be the length of time taken, in seconds (max 2 min/120 seconds). Please note: this shoot is Golf Scoring, that is a LOW score is better!

Targets

  • Two of the pool noodles from "Short" (3in dia, 10in long), placed one vertical and one horizontal at 5 yards. I highly recommend a line of spray paint on the ground to mark where the noodles belong as they tend to move when hit.
  • Three flat target backers (an size) with a standard "Letter Paper" (BLANK 8.5in X 11in paper) with the bottom of the paper about 2in up from the ground, one each placed at 10 yards, 15 yards, 25 yards.
  • One FITA (standard 5 ring 60cm) at 30 yards. "Hit" colors per the round.
  • One Balloon about the size of the red area on a FITA target at 20 yards on a flat target backer. In EVERY round the balloon is ALWAYS last (Duh!). May substitute a FITA target (red and in) but a balloon really is better.

    • Ends

Must be shot in order, with the targets hit in the order given as well.

      Shooting spots

The shoot uses 3 shooting spots, Center, Left, and Right. They are "2 Large steps" apart. This can be a simple stand in the middle of your shooting line then take two large steps, or use a can of spray paint and put a line where each shooting spot is. I found the marked spot made moving much easier for the last end.
      • Sweet Sixteen - (where there will be 16 archers first round) - Start standing roughly center of the shooting line. Archers Choice for the order, One noodle, FITA White and in, one hit to each paper, Balloon last.
      • Quarter - (8 winning archers) - Archer must start standing 2 large steps to the right of where they stood for the Sixteen round. Shoot the targets in the same order BUT REVERSED as the Sweet Sixteen (if they went short to long, now they have to go long to short); Opposite Noodle, FITA Black and in, Balloon is always Last.
      • Semi - (4 winning archers) - Archer must start standing 2 large steps to the left of where they stood for the Sixteen round. Order: one noodle, 15, 10, 25, FITA Blue and in, Balloon Last. (Marshal must call the next target after saying Hit)
      • Finals - (This is it folks!) Archer starts at the Left or Right spot from above. The "Move" in the order is 2 large steps toward the other end of the shooting line, arrows must remain in the quiver when moving. Order: 15, one noodle, MOVE, 25, other noodle, MOVE, FITA Red and in, 10, Balloon Last (Marshal MAY NOT call the next target only hit/miss. Marshal should call MOVE after each of the noodles. Only after they HIT a target in the wrong order the marshal will remind them which target they are supposed to be shooting at BUT THE HIT DOES NOT COUNT for that target, meaning they still need to hit it again when it comes up in the order.)

        • Yes, I am evil, I know. Why some of the weird rules on order, starting spots, and move you ask? To simulate what might come up during the real finals. I have no idea what Chris might have planned for this year, but I have seen what others have done to make each round more difficult than the last. The idea here is to show what might possibly happen and to amp up the pressure that is felt during the finals, especially on archers who have not made it beyond the Sweet Sixteen in the past. As always the goal is to make everyone better, raising the bar to become the next Royal Archer!
Curse me later, but ENJOY SHOOTING!!
